Support school children in your local community

We need your help to provide age appropriate books to children in an educational crisis.

The Brainery Book Club is a local book club that provides support and resources within the black community, to assist children and families, to increase proficiency in reading. We are looking for volunteers, donors and other organizations mission aligned to breaking the cycle of poverty.

Vision statement: The Brainery Reading club is a non partisan children’s reading program, with a goal towards improving reading proficiency in the Metro Detroit Area.

Our Founder

Celeste Mentag

Celeste Mentag is a wife, mother, Sunday School teacher and children’s author and poet. She’s currently serving as PTO Vice Chair at Ivywood Classical Academy.

Celeste’s love of reading started at a young age and passed on her enthusiasm and importance of reading to her four children. Inspired to make a difference in the lives of neighborhood children, she served as a Sunday school teacher at New Bethel Missionary Baptist Church in Detroit.

Determined to help, after examining the alarming statistics of learning loss to the students and multiple school closures in Detroit during and after the Pandemic.

Celeste was recruited to serve as a founding Charter school Board Member of the Detroit Founders Classical Academy. She is a staunch supporter and advocate for school choice.

“Parents and guardians are best at determining and choosing the school and methods of learning that work for their children.”

Today, Celeste is an author of two children’s books, and with her strong advocacy and organization skills, seek to reimagine in Detroit strong family and community bonds.

With a goal towards building strong future leaders through reading.
